Who We Are

Support. Facilitation. Partnership.

One of 65 synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Metropolitan Chicago Synod's role is one of partnership and support, both to the over congregations and worshipping communities, as well as the ELCA churchwide office.

The Metropolitan Chicago Synod is:

Informed by the past
...informed by the past.
Our work is strongly rooted in Word and Sacrament. We are grounded in reformation principles and shaped by the Lutheran tradition.
...living in the present.
Our synod works in a diverse, multicultural, progressive, urban and suburban context that requires ministry and mission that speaks to people where they are.
Open to the future
...open to the future.
Our synod faces today's and future challenges and opportunities with open hearts and minds.
Sustained by God's love for us in Jesus Christ
...sustained by God's love for us in Jesus Christ.
We work each day to share that love within our congregations and communities, helping them renew, strengthen, and thrive.
