Volunteers Make a
Difference in Chicago
Chicago-area Lutheran Volunteer
Corps volunteers for 2006/07
Ninety-two volunteers have been dispersed across the
country for a year committed to social justice, intentional community and
simplicity while exploring spirituality. These men and women are serving with
the Lutheran Volunteer Corps (LVC), a domestic volunteer program that serves
Chicago and 8 other urban areas. Thirteen of those volunteers have arrived in
Chicago and are living in the Uptown based Casa Romero, Humboldt Park based
Sojourner Truth house and the Albany Park based Carter Heyward House for their
year of service.

The Lutheran
Volunteer Corps is a community of faith that unites people to work for peace
with justice! These volunteers in Chicago have traveled from across the country
to serve full time in both direct service agencies and advocacy or organizing
type positions. They join a legacy of over 1,500 volunteers that have served
with the Lutheran Volunteer Corps over the last 27 years. The Lutheran Volunteer
Corps continues to be a life-changing experience for many. Many alumni of LVC
continue on to seminary or stay in the non-profit sector. They find a variety of
ways of converting a year of service into a lifetime of commitment. LVC is
grateful for the prayers, time and financial gifts it receives from individuals
and congregations. Special thanks to Ebenezer Lutheran, Wicker Park Lutheran,
Christ Evangelical Lutheran, Holy Trinity and the dedicated group of alumni and
friends of LVC on the local support committee in Chicago.
LVC volunteers, alumni, and staff are excited to come to your church and share
their experience and the work of the program. If you would like to schedule an
adult forum or “temple talk” for your congregation contact Joanne Otte,
Chicago/Milwaukee Coordinator, at
chicago.milwaukee@lutheranvolunteercorps.org
or at 773-832-9426. To learn more about LVC go to
