This year’s Professional Leaders Conference, open to all rostered leaders in the synod, will be a one-day event that will take place on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, from 8:45 a.m. until 4 p.m. at United in Faith Lutheran Church, 6525 W. Irving Park Rd., Chicago, IL 60634. Online registration ends on October 19, 2012.
The cost is $30 and will include lunch. The presenter will be the Rev. Peter Marty. There will be two sessions to this day-long event.
The morning session
Re-imagining our Lives of Leadership:
Adapting Ministry Skills to Become a Way of Life
Something more is needed in ministry than giving ceremonial attention to God, or paying homage to particular church customs. Church work in this day and age deserves people who are serious about insisting on the priority of God for their personal lives. This will be an opportunity to examine an approach to leadership that dwells on the character of one’s soul and the spiritual desire for growing one’s instincts for people.
The afternoon session
When Friendliness in a Church Isn’t Enough:
Rethinking Hospitality from the Inside Out
Church leaders get to be the catalyst for helping congregations become something more than a cozy family. But getting to a new place of openness, and figuring out how to be more Spirit-led, requires more than telling people what to do or how to behave. There is a modeling and a patterning of commitments that must first rest deep within one’s own heart.
The day will also include an opening worship with the Rev. Linda Norman preaching, time for questions and answers, small-group discussion, and a conversation-time with Bishop Miller. Mark your calendar for Tuesday, October 23, 2012, and plan to attend.
If you have any questions about the event, please contact the Rev. Cynthia K. Hileman at ckhileman@mcselca.org or 773-248-0021.
